In a recent Huffington Post article, they spoke with black gun owners to figure out what gun ownership in the black community means in a country that appears to be determined to keep its black citizens unarmed. Some people may find this episode a little controversial, but it is the reality for the black community as I see it. Each instance of a tragic mass shooting in the United States prompts immediate calls for new, more strict gun ownership regulations with the black community faithfully leading that charge. In reality we, above all other communities in the U.S., need to embrace and practice responsible gun ownership for the protection of ourselves, our families, and our communities in an environment that has always been hostile and oppressive toward us.
